Intelligent Robots

Intelligent robots are machines that combine AI, sensors, and actuators to perform tasks with higher levels of adaptability, and can process data, make decisions, and improve over time. With the advancing of industrialization and AI technology, intelligent robots play an increasingly important role in intelligent manufacturing, intelligent transportation system, intelligent services, medical health, etc., and are gradually becoming a significant force to promote social progress and industrial upgrading. This seminar focuses on research progress in key technologies and industrial applications of intelligent robots, and aims to provide related theories, methods and technical guidance to the technological and industrial development of intelligent robot.

Jiangping Hu

Biography: Jiangping Hu received the B.S. degree in applied mathematics and the M.S. degree in computational mathematics from Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, China, in 2000 and 2004, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in modeling and control of complex systems from the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 2007.,He has held various positions with the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden; the City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong; Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan; and Western Sydney University, Sydney, NSW, Australia. He is currently a Professor with the School of Automation Engineering, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China. His current research interests include multi-agent control, social dynamics, and distributed optimization. He was supported by Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, and was selected as Worlds’Top 2% Scientists. He serves as editorial board member of Journal of Systems Science and Complexity, Kybernetika, and PLOS Complex Systems.

Biography: Wenxue Wang received the B.S. degree in automation from Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China, in 1996, the M.S. degree from Institute of Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 1999, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical and systems engineering from Washington University in Saint Louis, USA, in 2006. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Texas Tech University and University of California Santa Barbara, USA. Since October 2012, he has been a researcher at the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and is a candidate of the second batch of Liaoning Province's ‘Ten Hundred Thousand Project’ at the ‘Hundred People’ level. His research interests include life-like robots, control theory, computational biology and neuroscience, and cellular tissue engineering.

Yun Zhao
Professor of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, Head of Artificial Intelligence Program of School of Information and Electronic Engineering, IEEE Member, Member of Mechatronics & Biorobotics Branch of ASABE, Member of Specialty Crop Engineering Branch of ASABE, Director of Zhejiang Agricultural Machinery Society.

Biography: Yun Zhao, is a professor and master director of Zhejiang University, Doctor of Engineering (Postdoctoral), and a visiting scholar of the University of Reading, UK in 2006, and University of Florida, USA in 2018-2019. In recent years, she has presided over and participated in 14 projects of National Key R&D, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Zhejiang Provincial Key R&D, Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation, and Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Program, and presided over major projects of enterprise cooperation in the direction of artificial intelligence. As the first author, she has published more than 20 papers in international authoritative Top, SCI and EI journals. She has authorized more than 10 patents as the first inventor. She won the 'Zhejiang University Research Achievement Award', was selected as one of the 'Outstanding Young Teachers Funding Program' and 'Young Talents of KU'. She serves as an expert in the evaluation of the projects of the National Foundation and the Department of Science and Technology of Zhejiang Province. She is a member of IEEE, a member of Mechatronics & Biorobotics Section of ASABE, a member of Specialty Crop Engineering Section of ASABE, and a director of Zhejiang Agricultural Machinery Society. Here research interests include artificial intelligence; vision robotics; computer vision and pattern recognition; intelligent agriculture; intelligent transportation.

Dunwen Wei
Dr. Dunwen Wei is an Associate Professor at the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the Robotics Research Center at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). He obtained his Ph.D. through a joint training program between Northwestern Polytechnical University and Cornell University. Member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and a senior member of the China Mechatronics Association. He also serves as a peer reviewer for the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and as a reviewer for several prestigious international journals and conferences in the field of robotics.

Biography: Over the years, he has led or played a key role in multiple national and provincial research projects, including projects under the National High-Tech R&D Program (863 Program), JB research programs, and NSFC grants. He has served as the principal investigator for two NSFC projects and seven provincial-level projects. Dr. Wei has published over 20 high-impact research papers in leading academic journals and conferences and holds more than 20 granted national invention patents. His work contributes to advancing the frontiers of robotics, bridging the gap between bio-inspiration and next-generation robotic applications. His research interests lie in compliant & soft actuators, soft robotics, bio-inspired medical and rehabilitation robotic mechanisms and control, intelligent decision-making and navigation for unmanned systems, and the integration of bio-inspiration with robotics applications.

Laihao Yang
Associate professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University

Biography: Laihao Yang, Associate professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University. He serves as member of the Dynamic Signal Analysis Committee of the Chinese Society of Vibration Engineering, the Intelligent Robotics Committee of the Chinese Computer Society, the Young Editorial Board of Soft Science, Biomimetic Intelligence and Robotics and Robot Learning, guest editor of Sensors and Polymers, and session chair of SES and ICIRA conferences. In recent years, he has presided over more than 10 projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, KJ Equipment Advance Research, and Cultivation of Large Scientific Devices. He hsas published one monograph, more than 70 academic papers such as TRO, AS, TMECH, MMT, RAL, etc., and more than 70 invention patents. He won the first prize of Excellent Achievements in Science and Technology Research in Higher Educational Institutions in Shaanxi, the “Robot Science Leadership Award” at the annual meeting of China's robotics industry, the Best Poster Award at the China Robotics Academic Conference, and the second prize at the China Air and Space Dynamics Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, etc.

Shilong Sun
Associate Professor and Master's Supervisor at the School of Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing, Faculty of Intelligent Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen)

Biography: Sun Shilong Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Master's Supervisor at the School of Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing, Faculty of Intelligent Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). He has been selected for the Shenzhen Overseas High-Caliber Personnel Program and the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Fund PhD Fellowship Scheme (PH-ITF). In 2024, he received the Global Quality Management Science Best Research Award and the Fourth Shenzhen Outstanding Scientific and Technological Academic Paper Award. He serves as a youth editorial board member for 'Bionic Intelligence and Robotics' and 'China Mechanical Engineering'. In 2019, he obtained his Ph.D. from City University of Hong Kong, where he was honored with the Outstanding Academic Performance Award, Research Tuition Scholarship, and Best Hostel Resident Scholarship.
Dr.Sun's research focuses on humanoid and legged robot motion control, reinforcement learning and imitation learning, industrial artificial intelligence applications, intelligent fault diagnosis, and smart vibration energy harvesting. He has led 12 national, provincial, and defense projects. To date, he has published over 50 high-quality research papers in international authoritative journals, including top mechanical engineering journals such as MSSP, AEI, IEEE TIE/TIM, and ISA Transactions. He serves as a reviewer for journals like MSSP, RESS, SMS, MMT, ESWA, IEEE TIE/TIM/T-MECH, as well as Chinese journals like 'Information and Control' and 'Control and Decision. In 2022, he was recognized as the Most Trusted Reviewer by IOP Publishing.

Xiaoling Chen
Associate Professor of Yanshan University, Youth Member of Intelligent Rehabilitation Branch of Chinese Biomedical Engineering Society, Member of Intelligent Health and Bioinformatics Committee of Chinese Automation Society, Member of Neural Regeneration and Repair Committee of Chinese Society of Research Hospitals, and Member of Specialized Committee of Medical-Industrial Integration of Achievement Transformation in Hebei.

Biography: Xiaoling Chen, Associate Professor of School of Electrical Engineering, Yanshan University, and recipient of Hebei Provincial Outstanding Youth Fund, is mainly engaged in the research of multimodal information processing, machine learning and pattern recognition, intelligent monitoring and control. She has achieved a series of leading research results in the fields of multimodal signal fusion analysis, motor-cognitive function assessment and training, wearable rehabilitation robot, and hybrid brain-computer interface. He has presided over 9 national/provincial projects, such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Provincial Key R&D Program, and the Provincial Excellent Youth Program, and participated in 5 national and provincial projects as a principal researcher. The related research results have been published in more than 50 relevant papers in domestic and international journals and academic conferences, such as IEEE TNSRE, IEEE TBE, JNE, Chinese Science, etc. He has applied for nearly 40 invention patents (15 authorized and 20 publicized), and was awarded the Outstanding Nomination Award for Youth Paper of World Robotics Competition 2021-BCI Brain-Controlled Robotics Competition, Third Prize of Sinan of 100 Outstanding Papers on Stroke Prevention and Control in China in 2019, Second Prize of Outstanding Papers in 2019 Shanghai International Conference on Exercise Biomechanics and Clinical Translation, and many other awards. He serves as an editorial board member of International journal of biomedical science and engineering, and a reviewer for many international academic journals, such as IEEE TNSRE, Neuoimage: Clincal, JNE, etc. He is also a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Biomedical Science and Engineering, and a reviewer for many other international academic journals. He maintains long-term project cooperation and joint training relationship with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the National Research Center for Rehabilitation Assistive Devices, the Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other research institutes and medical institutions.

Zhinan Peng
Lecturer at the School of Automation Engineering, UESTC

Biography: Zhinan Peng received the Ph.D. degree in control science and engineering from the School of Automation Engineering, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), in 2020. From 2019 to 2020, he has been a joint training Ph.D. Student with The University of Auckland, New Zealand, sponsored by China Scholarship Council. He is currently a Lecturer with the School of Automation Engineering, UESTC. His current research interests include multi-agent systems, adaptive dynamic programming, reinforcement learning, and robotics. He has authored more than 60 journal and conference papers. He was the recipient of Ph.D. Dissertation of UESTC, Excellent Postdoctoral Fellow of UESTC, Best Conference Paper Finalist from 2020 International Conference on Cognitive Systems and Information Processing, Best Paper Award from the journal of Control Theory and Technology, in 2021.
